Railway Media Portal — Digital platform for onboard entertainment, news & passenger engagement.

Overview

The project was to design and deploy a multimedia infotainment platform for passenger trains. It needed to provide schedule updates, media content, and passenger interaction tools — all operable in low-connectivity or offline conditions.

Our Contribution

A7 delivered a robust and resilient transport-grade media system:

  • Designed an intuitive UX for fast navigation on touch displays
  • Integrated train schedule data, routes, and delay info
  • Developed media content modules and admin content manager
  • Ensured platform worked seamlessly offline and synced updates when online

Results

  • Successfully deployed across multiple railway routes
  • Passengers receive real-time info and entertainment on board
  • Reduced pressure on train staff through automated announcements

What A7 delivered:

  • Designed and implemented a multimedia portal for passengers with real-time schedules, announcements, and route details
  • Built interactive displays for trains that function in offline or low-connectivity environments
  • Created tools for dynamic content management and remote updates by railway operators
  • Optimized the UX for quick interaction in motion-heavy conditions (touch-friendly, accessible, distraction-free)
“Thousands of passengers now use this platform daily to stay informed and entertained during travel.”

What We Do

  1. User Journey Mapping

We analyzed how passengers interact with onboard systems during different travel phases. This helped us prioritize key features like schedules, media content, and announcements, tailoring them to real usage scenarios.

  1. Wireframing & Prototyping

Created low-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes to test usability in motion-sensitive environments. Designs focused on clarity, fast navigation, and accessibility.

  1. Offline-First Architecture

To ensure reliability during travel, we built an offline-capable system running on edge devices. Content and updates sync automatically when connectivity is available.

  1. Content Sync & Scheduling Tools

Developed admin tools to manage media, update schedules, and push alerts. Content can be localized, timed, and synced remotely with minimal data load.

  1. Simulated Environment Testing

Tested the platform in real-world conditions: vibration, signal drops, lighting changes, and multi-language use to ensure smooth performance across all scenarios.

  1. Deployment & Monitoring

Rolled out across selected train routes with remote monitoring, performance analytics, and over-the-air updates for both content and system improvements.

“A7 helped us deliver a digital experience on board that truly matched passenger expectations. Despite the technical complexity of working in offline, moving environments, the team built a stable, intuitive, and scalable platform. Their design thinking, engineering discipline, and attention to detail exceeded our expectations.”
